How To Make Your Uni Room Feel Like Home

How To Make Your Uni Room Feel Like Home

Going to university can often be the best experience of your life, although the sad reality is that it can occasionally make you feel homesick. That’s why it’s important to decorate your space to make your uni room feel like home.

Your university room is your safe space where you go to relax and unwind, so it’s important that every student feels at home in their room. It’s an opportunity to style your dorm following your own rules. Remember… landlords won’t appreciate you drilling holes in the walls and peeling the paint off, but there are still safe ways to make your uni room feel like home!

Here are some of our own tips for you…

bring nature inside

Styling your room with nature themed art is the perfect way to bring a piece of the outdoors into your space. Nature themed art such as plants, flowers, and illustrations of nature will help your room feel more positive and increase productivity and general wellbeing.

Tip 1: Cover your room in colours of green, orange and beige. Green is the colour most associated with nature and represents growth and harmony. Orange and beige are both warm colours that radiate a calming and relaxed feel.

Tip 2: Avoid nails and screws that can damage the walls and instead use string or Command Strips to hang your art and save your security deposit! You can also add nature themed pillows, a rug or photographs and no room is complete without a real plant.

add a touch of the wild side

Decorating your uni room with animal art will help add character and personality. You can choose from artistic graphics, black and white shots, or high-quality pictures of all different types of creatures.

Tip 1: Choose to display animals that personally reflect you. Many people have their own spirit animals but it’s not necessary. If you can decide which animals you identify with your personality, then decorating your room with these animals will create the place for you to unwind after the stress of lectures and deadlines.

Tip 2: Have a variety of graphical designed prints as well as real live photographs. Both are very different, but create great contrast.

take an artistic approach

Being used to a fast-paced and creative environment is something students will get used to. Decorating your uni room with artistic prints like the ones below will not only serve as adding creativity to your room, but could also provide you with inspiration for your next project or essay.

Step 1: Use creative framing methods. You can let us professionally frame your prints, but if you’re looking for a more creative aesthetic you can make a collage of pictures, use clipboards, mood boards, or even a poster hanger.

Step 2: Be considerate of the colours you select. Black and white prints often look the most effortlessly attractive and artistic, but abstract prints can also be used to add a bold pop of colour to your room.

mindful art

Everyone should prioritise their mental health and wellbeing, especially students. Creating a space filled with positive emotions and mindful images will help put you in the healthiest state of mind.

Step 1: Select prints that create a calming environment that supports your wellbeing. Stresses of exams and deadlines can weigh you down, so choosing prints in light and warm colours that initiate mindfulness will help you feel relaxed.

Step 2: Displaying photographs are a necessity to having a bedroom that supports your mental health. Photographs of your friends, family and places you’ve been, displayed around your room will help improve your mental wellbeing and help make your uni room truly feel like home.
