ABSTRACT ART PRINTS

We’ve included a range of different abstract art styles here from multicolour giclées to monotone minimalist pieces. The result is that our collection offers something to complement every space and style whilst also showcasing the variety of the movement. Below, we’ve provided a brief introduction to abstract art.

What is abstract art?

Started in the 19th century, the abstract art movement rejects conventional realism in favour of a less representational style. Unlike traditional art, abstract artwork isn’t intended to look like a realistic version of its subject.

The word ‘abstract’ literally means to pull away from something – abstract art is all about moving away from attempts to depict visual reality and towards the expression of emotion and meaning through shapes, colour, and gestural marks.

What are the elements of abstract art?

The six elements of abstract art are:
  • Line
  • Texture
  • Shape
  • Form
  • Colour
  • Value

Whilst these elements are thought to be the most important features of artwork in general, they get discussed a lot in the context of abstract art. Looking at the abstract prints in our collection, you can see why so much emphasis is placed on these features.

What is minimalist abstract art?

Minimalism is a subset of the abstract movement that began in the 1960s in the USA. You can spot the more minimalist pieces in our selection by the emphasis on simple geometric shapes.
