Selecting a colour scheme when decorating can always be difficult. The worry of getting it wrong can be daunting, especially when investing your hard-earned money into wall art. That’s why this week, we’re showing you how to enhance a colour scheme with wall art. Follow some of these basic design concepts, with some added personal flare and you’ll struggle to go wrong!
Neutrals
Homeowners are beginning to opt for warm toned neutral shades, as opposed to the cool toned grey that has dominated interior trends over the last few years. When selecting wall art to compliment a neutral colour palette, it is important to stick with warm tones that fit your aesthetic, whilst having the confidence to incorporate a range of both lighter and darker tones. Black frames are especially effective when displaying a neutral colour scheme to set art apart distinctively, especially when the colours can be very similar from one print to the next.
Analogous
An analogous colour scheme is when you pair one main colour with two other colours that are directly next to it on the colour wheel, such as yellow, orange and red. This creates colours that are similar, complimentary and effective when placed together. Whilst this creates a sense of continuity, the varying tones also allows you to bring in multiple colours to a space.
monochrome
A black and white theme is a classic take on a monochromatic colour palette that fits with any coloured space. Black and white are classic fail-safe options when selecting wall art for a clean and polished look. Just make sure to incorporate a range of designs with varying amounts of white space in the print to create balance in your display.
Triadic
A triadic colour scheme is great when you want to use high impact, contrasting colours. They are created by choosing colours that are equally placed in lines around the colour wheel, where the three points of a triangle would sit. For example, Red, Yellow and Blue. It’s important to remember that these colour concepts are very flexible and you can experiment with a whole range of tones.
